Reduction Screenprinting
Class Description
Reduction screenprinting is a painterly way to create screenprints. With one stencil, you’ll use screen filler to progressively add layers to your print, going from the lightest colors to the darkest. You’ll be able to make a 3-4 color print of your very own design using this method, creating an edition of prints to take home at the end. We will go over screenprinting basics such as how to paint screen filler into the screen, select the correct colors and order for reduction printing, and to register and print your design. No previous screenprinting experience is necessary, but some drawing and painting experience is preferred.

Course Agenda
Week 1: Introduction to reduction printing: go over process, demos on how to create an outline for your reduction print, how to apply screen filler onto the screen, how to print the first color
Week 2: Demo on printing 2nd color- refresher on using the screen filler, demo on how to align your drawing back up with your stencil to add your 2nd color
Week 3: Work day: assisting participants on printing, painting out layers, screen cleaning, etc

About the Instructor – Stephanie Berrie
Stephanie Berrie is an artist from Dayton, Ohio. She completed her BFA at the Columbus College of Art and Design in 2015 and her MFA at Texas Tech University in 2019. Berrie owns and runs her own printmaking studio in Northern Kentucky, Wild Berries Press and co-runs studio collective, Spit Bite Studios, where she teaches printmaking workshops and hosts community events. She has also been an artist in residence at the Charles Adams Studio Project in Lubbock, Texas and was Tiger Lily’s Annual Working Artist in Cincinnati, Ohio from 2020-2021. She has exhibited her printmaking work all across the nation, primarily in the Southwestern, Midwestern, and Eastern states and is an active member of the Mid America Print Council.
